Prof. Hassan Al-Noamany, President of Sohag University, witnessed part of the activities of a workshop entitled \u201cAnti-Female Circumcision,\u201d organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sohag University Hospitals, in cooperation with the Royal assembly of Obstetrics and Gynecology in England, in the small conference hall of educational building attached to the new university hospital in the new city of Sohag in the presence of Dr. Magdy El-Kady, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and a group of staff members in the obstetrics and gynecology departments in Sohag and abroad.<\/p>\n

Al-Noamany gave a speech in which he welcomed the university\u2019s guests, representatives of the Royal Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology in England, explaining that this workshop comes within the framework of President Sisi\u2019s directives to pay attention to women\u2019s health and rights, and the university\u2019s role in interacting with societal issues and trying to solve them, explaining that during the workshop it is a practical application for the roles that the university adopts in various societal issues in order to reach effective solutions to them, pointing out that the workshop addressed the religious, legal and medical dimensions towards the phenomenon of female circumcision and the resulting severe damage that affects the lives of women at an early age and harms society as a whole, as well as clarifying to doctors the extent of these damages and how to protect themselves from falling under the penalty of the law as a result of committing these non-medical or legal acts.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

From his part, Dr. Magdi Al-Qadi explained that a number of published researches were reviewed in this regard, explaining that the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sohag University was the first to publish a number of researches on female circumcision in international journals, through which it won an award from the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the same time, adding that the symposium touched medical diagnosis, beliefs, and wrong legacies about the phenomenon of \u201cfemale circumcision,\u201d which is a societal issue forbidden by law, religion, and customs, and that the essence is adherence to the teachings of religion and sound medical culture in a way that ensures that the girl can protect herself from the removal of any parts of her body.<\/p>\n

He thanked Dr. Hassan Al-Nomani, President of the University, for his participation in the workshop activities and the continuous support he provides to faculty of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ahmed Hamed, Director of the New University Hospital, said that the workshop was being organized for the first time in the educational center attached to the new University Hospital, and more than 80 doctors of the same specialty from inside and outside the university at the level of Sohag Governorate participated in it, adding that the trainees will receive a certificate of attendance for the course and selection.<\/p>\n
