Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research

Since the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Sohag in 1991, and over the course of two full decades, the faculty has played a vital role in postgraduate studies and research for the population of the South Valley region. Throughout this period, the faculty has undergone numerous transformations that have significantly influenced its development. In its early years, the faculty was affiliated with Assiut University, which allowed it to benefit from the experiences and achievements of this prestigious institution.

With the founding of South Valley University, the faculty became independent from Assiut University and joined the new university, gaining access to extensive support and ambitious plans. In 2006, Sohag University was established, fulfilling the faculty’s long-standing aspiration to be affiliated with a university located in the same city. This marked a turning point, placing the faculty at the center of attention of the newly established university’s administration.

Despite its relatively short history, not yet completing its second decade, the faculty has made notable achievements in undergraduate education, having graduated fifteen cohorts of bachelor’s degree students.

As the Faculty of Medicine – Sohag University – concludes its second decade in the wake of the blessed January 25th Revolution, it experiences a defining moment in its journey. The faculty has obtained academic accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, a prestigious milestone that should serve as the foundation for all strategic goals of the institution. It must also guide the operational and procedural objectives of all its members, including faculty, staff, students, and the surrounding community.

Everyone should feel proud of this accomplishment. Therefore, I urge all stakeholders not to miss this opportunity and to dedicate their utmost efforts to preserving this noble achievement. In this regard, the Postgraduate Studies Sector Administration commends the support received from the Project Management Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and from the university administration, which has made achieving this goal one of its strategic priorities.

May God grant us success.
