
Dr. Hassan Al-Noamany, President of Sohag University, opened the activities of the first annual scientific conference of the Department of Pediatrics, under the title “Return to basic and sound scientific methods in diagnosis and treatment,” which was organized by Faculty of Medicine with the participation of a number of Egyptian universities and in the presence of more than 200 doctors from university hospitals and Ministry of Health hospitals.
This came in the presence of Dr. Magdy Amin Al-Qadhi, Dean of the faculty, Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Hamdoun and Dr. Khaled Abdel-Al, deputies of the faculty, Dr. Abdel-Rahim Abd Rabbo, head of the department and president of the conference, Dr. Ali Abu Al-Majd, former dean of the faculty of Medicine and honorary president of the conference, and Dr. Somaya Hadhoud, professor of pediatrics and former dean of faculty of Nursing.
Dr. Ahmed Fawzi, head of the Doctors Syndicate, and an elite group of staff members in the Children’s Department, the organizing committee, and a group of leaders from the Ministry of Health and Health Insurance in the governorate.
Dr. Hassan Al-Numany stressed that scientific research and academic cooperation are the ways to improve the quality of health care provided to patients, and the university administration always seeks to support the faculty of Medicine and its various departments to enhance this approach. This conference highlights the importance of returning to the correct scientific basics in pediatrics, reflects the university’s commitment to providing health and educational services according to the highest standards.
Al-Numany said that the Pediatrics Department witnessed significant development during this year, as its medical capabilities increased significantly, in the context of improving the quality of health services provided to children.
He explained that the department had only 10 nurseries, and the number rose to 42 nurseries, and the number of intensive care beds increased from 10 to 37 beds.
While the number of inpatient and emergency beds increased from 40 to 100 beds, and pediatric dialysis units doubled from 10 to 37 beds, which reflects the significant expansion of the department’s capabilities and its capacity to accommodate medical cases.
The “University President” indicated that this increase comes in preparation for the opening of the Shifa Children’s Hospital, a gift of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, for the children of South Upper Egypt, which will contribute to doubling the medical and therapeutic services provided to children, and enhance the university’s role in supporting the health sector and providing integrated care for children in accordance with the latest medical standards.
