“Under the patronage of Mr. Prof. Dr. Hassan Al-Nomani, President of the University, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Prof. Dr. Magdy Al-Qadi, Dean of the College, and Mr. Prof. Dr. Shadli Saleh Mousi, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Human Medicine (Community Service Sector) organized a seminar titled “Ethics of the Medical Profession” on Tuesday, 21/11/2023.
The seminar was attended by:
- Mr. Prof. Dr. Salah Rashidi, Vice Dean of the College for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
- Mr. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Nasr, Vice Dean of the College for Education and Students.
- Mr. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fawzi, Head of the Doctors Syndicate.
- Mr. Prof. Dr. Iman Salama, Vice Head of the Syndicate.
- Mr. Prof. Dr. Sarah Ahmed El-Sayed, Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxins.
The seminar was chaired by Dr. Shadli Saleh, who welcomed the attendees and spoke about:
- How to become a skilled doctor in terms of competence and technical personality.
- The doctor’s duties towards the patient and towards colleagues.
Then he passed the word to Dr. Iman Salama, who spoke about the ethics and violations of the profession, so the doctor’s arbitrariness with the patient or assaulting him or issuing an incorrect fatwa or speaking to him in an inappropriate way or disclosing a secret to him is considered a violation of professional etiquette.
And that in case there is a complaint from one of the patients as a disclosure of a secret, there is a committee to investigate to investigate this complaint and if its validity is proven, the doctor is subjected to the penalty of partial suspension and may reach the deletion, such as performing an unauthorized operation such as abortion because it is a legal crime.
And the syndicate offers seminars to raise awareness about professional ethics, so the practitioner’s behavior must be characterized by wisdom and a good example, and his behaviors should not be bad.
Then Dr. Sarah spoke about the components of practicing the profession:
- You must obtain a professional practice license after graduation.
- Satisfying the patient and obtaining his consent for the examination. Because one of the things that expose the doctor to legal accountability is that he did not take the patient’s consent. And there are two types of consent. Oral, which is by taking permission from the patient to examine for the purpose of healing him. Written, which requires intervention to perform special surgical operations, especially patients referred to the prosecution.
She also spoke about the fact that there are two types of error: Ordinary error and professional error, and the doctor is asked about the serious professional error, and she explained that the serious error must have three things
- That the error occurs from the doctor.
- That harm occurs to the patient.
- The existence of a causal relationship. There are also several types of liability:
Criminal – Civil – Disciplinary Administrative – Disciplinary Syndicate”
